sp/n
Residency Period
Jun–Sep 2026
sp/n is a Bangkok-based architectural studio working across architecture, exhibition design, installation and spatial research. Founded by Irin Siriwattanagul and Nathaphon Phantounarakul, the studio is interested in how space is shaped through everyday use, material presence, movement, atmosphere and social encounter.
Rather than approaching architecture as a fixed object, sp/n treats space as an open framework: its projects often begin with close observation of a site’s existing conditions, including traces of use, informal routines, overlooked spatial possibilities, and how people actually spend time there. Through modest but carefully considered spatial gestures, the studio explores how architecture can support different relations between bodies, objects, ground and public life.
During their residency at CHAT, Siriwattanagul and Phantounarakul will extend this interest to Hong Kong through observations across Tsuen Wan and Hong Kong Island, examining how use shapes space and how collective occupation reorganises public ground. Their research will result in a textile-based spatial structure at the Hall of the Mills for visitors to gather, rest, move through and take part.
The residency will be carried out in collaboration with Su Chang, Assistant Professor of the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong, as research collaborator.
