Alma QUINTO

Alma Quinto was born and currently lives in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, the Philippines. A female pioneer in socially engaged art in her country, Quinto has collaborated with various communities that suffered from natural disasters and sexual violence at home and abroad. Centred around healing, her artistic practice prioritises the process over the outcome.

She has exhibited at major international art exhibitions and institutions, including the Havana Biennale in Cuba (2003); the Yokohama Triennale in Japan (2005); and the group show Women-in-Between: Asian Women Artists 1984–2012 jointly organised by the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum, the Okinawa Prefectural Art Museum, the Tochigi Prefectural Museum of Fine Arts and the Mie Prefectural Art Museum in Japan (2012–2013). In 2014, Quinto curated the exhibition Community Mapping, Understanding Disaster at the Capitol University Museum of Three Cultures in Quezon City, the Philippines. She often holds workshops for children and marginalised communities, using textiles to empower and connect people.
