CHAT Two-Day Summer Camp: Make Your Own Upcycled Backpack
10% discount for CHAT members, 15% for CHAT Patrons.
Turn your child’s outgrown clothes into their next favourite backpack!
In CHAT’s community programme Seed to Textile 2026, Hong Kong fashion designer Yeung Chin creates art out of preloved textiles. In this two-day camp, young participants will learn to upcycle an old garment – from disassembling it to embellishing the fabric with eco-friendly techniques and sewing it into a stylish, functional backpack.
Day 1: Create your own fabric
At CHAT Studio, participants will learn to cut an old garment into large pieces of usable fabric. They will then forage for leaves and flowers (marigolds, safflowers and indigo leaves) and use eco-printing to decorate the fabric.
DAY 2: Sew your own drawstring backpack
At CHAT Lab, participants will learn to make a pattern and use a sewing machine to sew a backpack. They will then personalise their backpacks by adding unique details, colourful cords and decorative knots.

*Parents can drop off and pick up their children at CHAT Reception.
Experience level: No prior experience is needed. Recommended for ages 7–12.
