The kwan kwa is a traditional two-piece Chinese bridal costume, often embroidered with intricate auspicious motifs like dragons and phoenixes using gold and silver threads. Why not try your hand at embroidering your own masterpiece?
Under the expert guidance of Timmy Wong, master tailor of the ‘Lucky Embroidery’ studio, you will be introduced to basic kwan kwa embroidery techniques such as couching with metallic threads. Then, you will put the skills to use and embroider a personal motif onto a fabric pre-adorned with a peacock design. In three short hours, you will gain a wealth of knowledge and create a one-of-a-kind piece.
This event accompanies the special display Busy Needles: Textile Embellishments of Hong Kong in The D. H. Chen Foundation Gallery.
