10% discount for CHAT members, 15% for CHAT Patrons.
From scraps to celebration, join quilting artisan Josianne Robb to create a festive placemat in time for the holiday season!
Quilting combines geometry, design, sewing and padding to transform pieces of fabric into a unique and functional textile. In this four-hour workshop, you will learn the fundamentals of quilting while exploring the craft’s cultural richness and timeless appeal. Participants are also welcome to bring their own fabrics to incorporate into their placemats.
Choose from two festive-themed sessions: a Christmas-inspired workshop in late November featuring green and red fabrics, or a Lunar New Year-themed workshop in early January featuring red and gold fabrics.
This workshop accompanies the special display Snuggle and Stitch: Childhood Textiles of Hong Kong in The D. H. Chen Foundation Gallery, which showcases quilted blankets and their historical roles in everyday life in Hong Kong.
Experience: Participants should be able to operate a sewing machine independently. Recommended for ages 10 and above.
Materials: All tools and materials are provided. Participants are welcome to bring their own fabrics to use; lightweight cotton fabrics, such as old shirts, are recommended.
Language: English with informal Cantonese interpretation
