Lanterns light up the streets at festive times. More than decoration, they have long symbolised joy and reunion. Even as electric light floods modern cities, handcrafted lanterns still shine with a timeless charm.
This workshop focuses on the ‘peeled orange’ hexagonal lantern, a classic bamboo-framed design. Master Ha Chung Kin is hailed as Hong Kong’s ‘King of Paper Craft’ and known for his record-setting large-scale lanterns. Under his guidance, you will learn to bend bamboo strips, mount fabric and add decorative details, crafting a special lantern that blends traditional paper craft with textiles.
The event also includes a talk session, where Master Ha reflects on the evolution of Hong Kong’s paper craft industry, his personal experience, and the interplay between tradition and innovation. Join us in this rare opportunity to experience the intangible cultural heritage and learn from an expert practitioner!
