Chan Wai Lap on Art, Memory and Communal Spaces

Hong Kong artist Chan Wai Lap joins Elaine Choi, UBS Art Collection Manager, and Takahashi Mizuki, Executive Director and Chief Curator of CHAT, in a panel moderated by Louiza Ho, Associate Curator of Tai Kwun. Together, they will discuss Chan’s creative journey, memory as a social construct, and how communal spaces shape collective and personal experience.

Exchange Circle – Soft Force: Labour, Ritual and Collective Energy 

Moderated by CHAT’s curator Wang Weiwei, this conversation features artists Hu Yinping and Marcos Kueh as well as guest curators Eugene Hannah Park and Wang Huan. Together, the speakers will reflect on the quiet yet enduring power of intimacy, memory, care and collective labour – forces often expressed through ‘soft’ practices such as weaving, embroidery and ritual.

1. Design Your School Uniform

Join artist Chan Wai Lap and create a uniform that inspires students to be themselves! After the workshop, Chan will select two designs to be produced and displayed as part of his installation at CHAT this July!

2. Mini Tuskyiz Workshop

Tuskyiz is a hand-embroidered felt wall hanging, traditionally made by Kazakh mothers as a dowry for their daughters. Here, you can create your own mini tuskyiz by collaging felt pieces inspired by Central Asian ornaments, imagining the stories embedded within.

3. Natural-Dyed Fabric Badge Workshop

Shuttle Bus Schedule

Coming to CHAT will be even easier during Art Month! From 27 to 29 March, free shuttle buses will run between Art Basel Hong Kong and CHAT.

Passengers arriving at The Mills from the HKCEC will receive a 10% discount coupon for CHAT Shop. While stocks last!

Ticketing Arrangements on Weekends and Public Holidays

To ensure a safe and pleasant experience for all, CHAT will implement timed admission arrangements on weekends and public holidays until further notice.

Free Ticket distribution begins 30 minutes before each session outside CHAT Shop (G01A). Each person may collect up to 4 tickets. Tickets are limited and available on a first-come, first-served basis, while stocks last.

Visiting sessions and ticket distribution times are as follows:

1️⃣ 11:00am – 12:45pm
Distribution starts at 10:30am

2️⃣ 1:00pm – 2:45pm
Distribution starts at 12:30pm

3️⃣ 3:00pm – 4:45pm
Distribution starts at 2:30pm

4️⃣ 5:00pm – 7:00pm
Distribution starts at 4:30pm
