Look around you – have you ever wondered about the spaces nearby and how they are shared every day?

‘Ordinary Ordinary’ is a programme of a 1.5-hour neighbourhood walk, an observation workshop and a public talk initiated by sp/n, a Thailand-based architectural design studio and CHAT’s 2026 Artist-in-Residence. The programme draws on sp/n’s research during their residency in Hong Kong.

You will receive a zine template designed by sp/n and decorate your own edition. sp/n and Su Chang, assistant professor of the Department of Architecture at the University of Hong Kong, will then take you to places that we pass through repeatedly but rarely pause to observe. Together, we will explore how public spaces take shape through everyday use and interaction, and how we might form different relationships with the familiar yet unfamiliar neighbourhoods around us. As owners and users of space, how can we bring more joy to these beloved places?

Your discoveries will be documented in your personal zine, which you can take home as a record of the shared experiences. 

Following the workshop, sp/n and Su Chang will give a public talk moderated by Cathleen Pan, Curator at CHAT. 

This event is in collaboration with Co-Design Research Impact Think Tank, Department of Architecture, The University of Hong Kong.

Experience level: No prior experience is needed.

Language: English with simple Cantonese interpretation
