Join Mooni Perry, CHAT’s 2025 artist-in-residence, as she shares her research findings on women’s communities and rituals in Hong Kong and southern China, revealing how these practices refuse disappearance.
This event explores ritual as a living practice while connecting past and present through memories passed down by women. Once an important social event for the region’s female communities, the birthday of the Seventh Sister (the Weaver, representing the star Vega) falls on the seventh day of the seventh lunar month. At CHAT, you will experience a reimagined ritual of worshipping the Seventh Sister and take a close look at the key ritual object ‘Seventh Sister’s Basin’, a traditional paper craft on the verge of vanishing. You can also create paper crafts inspired by the tradition as mementoes to take home.
Özge Ersoy, Executive Director of Asia Art Archive, and artists and researchers Chen Jialu and Christina Yuna Ko will join as respondents, offering reflections from the perspectives of women’s folklore studies and women artist collectives.
