How can photography, especially portraiture, be an artistic device that relates womanhood with local textile traditions? In the context of Uzbekistan, what is the importance of documenting changes to womanhood and local textile traditions over time?

In this artist sharing, Uzbek artist, photographer and filmmaker Umida Akhmedova will be in conversation with Almaty-based curator Alexandra Tsay to share on her artworks, process and profound interest in documenting the daily life of rural and urban Uzbekistan through images and textiles. The sharing will conclude with a Q&A session with the audience.

The programme happens on the occasion of Clouds, Power and Ornament – Roving Central Asia  on view at CHAT from 25 February to 21 May 2023, where various works by Akhmedova will be shown.

Language: Russian with simultaneous interpretation into English and Cantonese
