YIU Kwan Kit Ellen

Ellen Yiu is an artist fascinated by tactile materials, which leads her to work across mediums such as woodwork, textiles and installations while also incorporating overlooked materials like hair and discarded matter. Her works explore the relationship between people and objects, inviting viewers into a world of introspection and universal connection. Each piece is a blend of emotions, encouraging an examination of the seemingly ordinary details in life.

Her practice is driven by a love for making and a sense of curiosity. Rooted in craftsmanship, she draws inspiration from her life in Hong Kong and in Europe, creating a visual diary that is introspective and intimate. Her work balances heavy themes like identity, health and family with playfulness, making it both poignant and approachable.

Yiu graduated from the Royal Academy of Art, The Hague in 2021. She has exhibited widely in the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom.
