Widi ASARI
Widi Asari is an artist and fashion designer based in Bandung, Indonesia. Her research and artistic creation delve into the intersection of cultural heritage, materiality and personal narratives. With a master’s degree in Textile Engineering and Apparel Technology, she initially set her sights on joining the mainstream fashion industry. However, her journey transformed after collaborations with interdisciplinary artists, indigenous communities and textile industry unions, which revealed the exploitation and environmental harm embedded in clothing production.
Asari’s latest project creates motifs about childhood memories of maternal caregiving, regenerates cultural narratives, reinterprets fabric as a storytelling medium, and envisions an alternative, sustainable future in fashion.
