KOBAYASHI Nanao

Born in Tokyo, Kobayashi Nanao is a contemporary artist who delves into phenomena beyond human perception and logic, capturing them as movements of particles. Her artistic practice intricately involves embroidery-like sculptures and installations that engage with natural phenomena. Meticulously constructed from interconnected hollow structural materials, her works proliferate infinitely from minimal units, rendering the imperceptible into tangible patterns and occurrences. Through this process, Kobayashi offers a vision of the world’s essential nature that transcends the past and the future. She also conducts performances using drums and electronic instruments, creating an immersive space where music serves as a primal expression of life. They simultaneously establish a dialogue with her embroidered works, tracing the contours of the invisible realm.

Kobayashi’s recent activities include the exhibitions Throw the Night, Yutaka Kikutake Gallery, Tokyo (2020) and COMA SPACE, Kondaya Genbei, Kyoto (2023), and various domestic and international live performances.
