CHEN Zhe

Chen Zhe was born in Beijing in 1989. Her practice examines the entanglement of body and mind, the experience of temporality, and the manifestation of destiny through material traces. She is drawn to moments when paradoxes flare against one another – oscillating between pain and relief, day and night, the finite and the eternal. Spanning photography, sculpture, spatial installation and publishing, her projects often unfold over many years, with individual works annotating one another, collectively forming an ongoing journey of discovery and remembrance.

Chen received her BFA in Photography and Imaging from ArtCenter College of Design in Los Angeles. Her works has been shown in exhibitions at Guardian Art Center, Beijing (2023); Wuhan Art Museum (2023); Museum der Moderne, Salzburg (2023); Beijing Biennale (2022); GL Strand, Copenhagen (2022); Lillehammer Art Museum (2022); Yokohama Triennale (2020) and more. In 2016, her work won the Best Book Award at Kassel Fotobookfestival.
