Alma QUINTO
Born in Urdaneta City, Pangasinan, the Philippines where she currently resides.
Quinto has been acknowledged as a female pioneer of social engagement art in the Philippine and collaborated various communities which suffered from natural and/or man-made disasters including earthquake, typhoon and sexual violence in and outside the Philippine. Her artistic practice aims healing thus often prioritises the process than substantial outcome. She has been invited by major international art exhibitions and instututions including the 8th Havana Biennale in Cuba (2003); the 2nd Yokohama Triennale in Japan (2005); the Fukuoka Asian Art museum, Okinawa Prefectural Art Museum, Tochigi Prefectural Museum and Mie Prefectural Museum in Japan from 2012-2013 for the group show Women-in-Between: Asian Women Artists 1984-2012. Beside of artmaking, Quinto curated the exhibition titled Community Mapping, Understanding Disaster at the Museum of Three Cultures, Capitol University in Quezon City in the Philippine in 2014. She often facilitates workshops for children and marginalised communities to empower and uses textiles to connect people.
