Kingsley Ng: Listen to the Sound of the Earth Spinning
With sound, light, image, and movement, Hong Kong media artist Kingsley Ng poetically transforms different environments into contemplative, meditative spaces. CHAT’s summer 2024 exhibition, Listen to the Sound of the Earth Spinning, featured Ng’s new commissioned works and fresh renditions of earlier projects. While paying tribute to Yoko Ono’s conceptual work EARTH PIECE: Listen to the sound of the earth turning, Ng ruminated on the historical context of CHAT as a former spinning mill. He invited visitors to interact with his installations and experience not just the visuals and tactility of textiles, but also their sonic and cosmic dimensions.
This catalogue features delicate prose by the artist, sharing his musings and creative processes, and a perceptive essay on his practice by Takahashi Mizuki, curator of the exhibition and CHAT’s Executive Director, complemented by installation photographs and a documentary. It also highlights the creation process of the CHAT-commissioned piece Globes, which involved over a hundred public participants and their animal companions.
