Meita MEILITA
Born in Bogor, Indonesia, artist and housewife Meita Meilita draws on her personal experiences as a woman, child, mother and wife in her artistic practice. She uses the medium of embroidery in installation art and participatory art. For her, embroidery is an intimate and personal process related to various levels of social life.
In 2021, Meilita was an artist-in-residence at the Leipzig International Art Programme in Germany. Her work was exhibited at ARTJOG MMXXII: Arts in Common – Expanding Awareness (2022); and Manifesto VIII: Transposition, National Gallery of Indonesia (2022). Meilita won the gold prize at the Craft City Lab Competition of Cheongju International Craft Competition, Cheongju Craft Biennale, South Korea in 2023. She also initiated the art project Archiving Memories in collaboration with female home-based workers in the textile area of Cigondewah in Bandung, Indonesia in 2023.
